I was born in 1989, but it appears that every decade since the 50s has had worse and worse mainstream music.

Yes, some rudimentary precursors to computers, cell phones and the internet existed in the 50s. But precursors to such technology already existed by the 1930s.
BTW, you are aware that "I Get a Kick Out of You" is not a 50s era song, right? It was written in 1934. Crooners like Frank were simply following tradition.
There were two significant cultural periods in the west in the 20th century, the 1920s/30s and the "60s". 1950s culture was simply "going on the momentum" of the 1930s.
